Matted size: 11" × 14"
Presentation: Matted, unframed
Signed: Yes
Series: Second of a two-painting Hawaiʻi series

The Story

Hawaiʻi Sunset is the second painting in a two-piece watercolor series I created after returning from Hawaiʻi, where I participated in the Lavaman relay and swam approximately one mile in the ocean.

During the trip, Kīlauea was actively erupting, sending lava hundreds of feet into the air and filling the atmosphere with volcanic material. That activity transformed even the quieter moments of the landscape.

In this painting, palms frame a brilliant sunset over the water. The unusually vivid pink-red sun was inspired by the way volcanic smoke in the atmosphere changed the light and color of the sunset.

After experiencing the intensity of Kīlauea and the ocean firsthand, I wanted these two paintings to capture two sides of the same place: the raw energy of the volcano and the quiet beauty of an island sunset.

Created in April 2026, Hawaiʻi Sunset is a one-of-a-kind original watercolor, signed by the artist.
